Due to this our engineers are forced to change the main ip address of the server. This may create an issue with dns propagation which may last from 24-48 hours. In those 24-48 hours your site may seem inaccessible from some locations.

Please note that if you do not host your DNS with us, you will need to change the A record to reflect the new ip address ( 209.124.50.90 )

below.

Below is the affected server schedule:

    Monday: www11, www12, www13, www14, www15
    Tuesday: www16, www17, www18, www19, www20
    Wednesday: www21, www22, www23, www24, www25

The maintenance window is between 6 PM US Eastern and midnight.

This time was chosen to give customers a chance to report any problems before the next business day and allow time for our non-US customers as well. We apologize if this is inconvenient.

Customers who are on servers www10 and below will not be upgraded currently due to a pending server migration announcement.

Duration: 6 hours each day - The server will be UP AND OPERATIONAL during this upgrade! We anticipate no downtime.

Detailed Description:

Dear A2 Hosting Customers,

The following notification is ONLY for customers who use our Shared,
Reseller, or Semi-Dedicated hosting services. We have scheduled
some necessary upgrades to Apache, PHP, and cPanel. All servers will
be running the software versions below once these upgrades are completed.

o cPanel/WHM latest RELEASE version - See: http://blog.cpanel.net/?p=51

o Apache 2.2 - Apache child processes will now run as the owner
and no longer as 'nobody'. This will alleviate permissions problems. We will automatically chown any files back over to the user from 'nobody' but you should make sure you don't anticipate any problems with this new system. Our testing has indicated no major problems making this change.

o PHP 5.2.6 - Please see php.net 5.2.6 Changelog to see if any of your code needs to be updated.

We have done thorough testing of these upgrades in our development environment and we are confident that these upgrades should have minimal issues.

If you experience a problem after the server has been upgraded, please
file a ticket with the support system so we can track and respond to
your request.

We highly suggest you check out our customer forum thread for any
updates pertaining to this maintenance.

I was wondering if anybody on a shared plan has managed to successfully complete an imap_open connection to a mailbox from PHP?.

The scripts that I have work great on a local machine but when uploaded to A2 they fail with Unable to create selectable TCP socket (1699 >= 1024). This is probably caused by open TCP sockets in use by the hundreds of other sites on the same machine... I really dont want to have to spend days recoding using another class..

Any tips is greatly appreciated.

Also, in the cpanel, the app is switched to "production" mode.

When I view the site in the browser, it is indeed the production version that is being displayed (I know because of the log files and which database is being accessed).

But when I run something like "rake db:migrate" it tries to migrate the development database and when I run "script/console" it loads the development environment.

I know I can "make" it run on either environment, but why would it default to the dev environment?

Also, in the cpanel, the app is switched to "production" mode.

When I view the site in the browser, it is indeed the production version that is being displayed (I know because of the log files and which database is being accessed).

But when I run something like "rake db:migrate" it tries to migrate the development database and when I run "script/console" it loads the development environment.

I know I can "make" it run on either environment, but why would it default to the dev environment?

We are currently working with cPanel to correct a bug that is not creating rewrites properly when created through the cPanel interface.

As soon as cPanel fixes this bug we will update the servers. Until that time, you can edit the .htaccess file and add the following so your application will redirect properly to it's assigned port.

For a primary domain:

Replace yourdomain.com with your domain name and the "XXXXX" with the port number listed in cPanel.

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain.com$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.yourdomain.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://127.0.0.1:XXXXX%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L]

For a subdomain:

Replace yourdomain.com with your domain name and the "XXXXX" with the port number listed in cPanel.

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain.com$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.yourdomain.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://127.0.0.1:XXXXX%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L]
